르구(Le Goût(프랑스어로 “맛”을 의미))는 식욕과 라이프스타일을 동시에 뜻한다. 13명의 학생 참가자는 프랑스에 위치한 작은 마을 리슐리외(Richelieu)에서 미국, 영국, 프랑스 출신의 대학 교수진 및 전문가들과의 깊고 친밀한 교류를 통해 새로운 문화와 사고방식을 배우고 체험했다. 역사적 배경과 건축물로 가득 차 있는 리슐리외에서 참여자들을 예술적 사고를 키우며 꾸준한 관찰을 통해 마을의 과거와 현재를 발견했다.
1631년과 1642년 사이에 지어에 지어진 이 마을은 1624년 루이 13세의 수석 장관이었던 리슐리외 추기경의 걸작이다. 리슐리외 추기경은 유명한 미술 수집가였으며 그의 개인 소장품은 사후 파리로 옮겨져 루브르 박물관으로 옮겨졌다. “이상적인” 도시를 추구했던 그의 도시는 미적인 감각과 기능적 형식을 중시했다. 특히 마을의 보호목적으로 지어진 높은 성벽과 시각적인 요소를 더한 대칭적인 네개의 문이 대표적이다.
오늘날까지 다양한 예술가들이 리슐리외에 정착하여 예술을 실천하여 있으며 이 마을의 예술적 본질은 고스란히 남아 있다. 크리스찬 디올 (Christian Dior)과 지방시 (Givenchy) 컬렉터는 리슐리외에 귀중한 컬렉션을 보관하고 있으며, 크리에이티브 디렉터들이 두 브랜드의 카탈로그를 촬영하고 작업하기 위해 몇 달 동안 방문 및 상주한다. 또한 리슐리외 추기경이 마을을 건설할 때 희망했던 대로 건축 워크숍, 영화제, 요리 워크숍, 판화 워크숍이 이곳에서 주기적으로 열리고 있다. 물론, 이러한 창조적인 자원과 교육은 <Le Goût 르구>의 참여 학생들처럼 마을을 방문하는 사람들에게 영감을 선물한다.
<Le Goût 르구>는 리슐리외에서 2주 동안 머물며 작업한 참여 학생들의 26점의 판화 작품을 선보인다. 호기심 많은 10대 참여자들은 끊임없이 질문을 던지고, 상상력을 키우고, 생각을 기록하며, 보는 시야를 넓히며 작업물을 완성했다. 전시는 그들의 진지한 관찰력과 창조적 실천에 주목한다.

Le Goût, meaning taste in French, simultaneously addresses appetite and lifestyle. During a two-week stay at Richelieu, France, 13 participants deepened and broadened their artistic vision. Led by college faculty members and professionals from USA, UK, and France, the participants shared meaningful conversations as levels of different lives and cultures unfolded. At Richelieu, a small town filled with its unique historical background and architecture, the participants enthusiastically discovered the village’s past and present through their efforts to observe and learn.
Richelieu was named after and built at the order of Cardinal Richelieu (1585-1642). Cardinal Richelieu, the chief minister to King Louis XIII of France in 1642, was a renowned art collector whose private collection was later moved to the Louvre Museum. His city of “ideal” greatly valued aesthetic and functional qualities, such as defensive walls and four symmetrical gates built around the rectangular town.
To this date, the town's artistic essence remains intact, attracting many artists and designers since its establishment. The collector of Christian Dior and Givenchy keeps the precious collections in Richelieu, and creative directors visit and reside for months to shoot and work on fashion catalogs. Just as Cardinal Richelieu had hoped when building the city, the town holds multiple festivals and workshops involving architecture, film, culinary arts, printmaking, and more. Undoubtedly, these resources and virtues continue to inspire and connect inquisitive souls from all over the world, including the participants of this exhibition.
Le Goût, Seoul 2022 presents 26 prints that the participants have created in Richelieu. The young artists expanded their perception, stretching their horizons by pondering, examining, recording, and drawing. Although in their teens, their earnest observation and draftsmanship are noteworthy. In this sense, Albus Gallery is excited to share the envisions of the young, curious minds.
