1-5 WORKSHOP LAB X 2020
Summer Workshop 2020
This workshop aims to work with unknowns in our society and find an artistic solution to raised questions. “X”, among other things, means unknown variables, deletion, and multiplication. “Deletion” or “crossing out” is to edit prejudice or conventional ways of doing and thinking. “Multiplication” translated into the synergic effect between students and instructors at the workshop.
During the intensive two-week workshop, students take on current and emerging issues in the world through visual communication. We will learn to observe the world in a bigger context, as well as understand, at a close range, our place in the world. The final products we produce will verify the skills and knowledge we have gained.
WK 1:
Art of eyes and ears in your hand. Images and movies are everywhere and we constantly record images and sound. Also, we’re watching and commenting on images and sound constantly. But, what is it we’re watching?
WK 2:
Human. Again.
A workshop examining analog graphic processes and their application within the design. For the past 40 years, the computer has become the standard tool of choice in design. We all design using applications from
one company and pretty much one operating system. This has lead to a very digital world where design is starting to look all very much the same. We have lost some of the special idiosyncrasies that make us who we are as individuals and human beings. This workshop will explore different methods for analog form making and graphic design that seek to introduce or re-introduce processes of the hand into the computer workflow.
