Principal's Note
The 1-5 Design Lab has been operating as an art and design education space since 2010. Gratefully, many people visit this place with their own goals. Our role is to do our best to help them achieve those goals. Moreover, we must ensure that students can go through the true learning process in a safe environment, together with growing individuals.
I hope that the many people who pass through this place will cultivate the strength to live their lives with a flexible and proactive attitude, and above all, with a kind heart in the changing world. And someday, I hope that after leaving this place, they will become people who shine in society.

Students must express their thoughts and opinions in a dense and substantive way, and teachers must lead the process with deep insight and a high level of perspective. To this end, all members must study and grow together, and we sincerely cheer on all of that time.
Knowing that there are diverse people in the world, and listening to their stories expands one's worldview. We hope that our students will interact with more people and look at the world more broadly. In this process, they can expand their empathy and the breadth of their thinking, and develop the power to discover new perspectives.
We do not hastily set limits on the student's potential or judge them rashly. We seek to continually engage in dialogue while respecting the students as individuals. One of our most important roles is to draw out and help express the untapped stories within them.
We continually question and answer why the destination must be reached, and what will be gained there. We do not forget that the time spent with us is a preparatory process for becoming a more shining presence in society.
We actively welcome unfamiliar ideas, new perspectives, and opinions open to discussion. We hope that this place becomes a safe space for responsible self-expression and mature acceptance of others.
Our Philosophy
Everyone grows together
Students must express their thoughts and opinions in a dense and substantive way, and teachers must lead the process with deep insight and a high level of perspective. To this end, all members must study and grow together, and we sincerely cheer on all of that time.
Cultivate the power to see the world broadly
Knowing that there are diverse people in the world, and listening to their stories expands one's worldview. We hope that our students will interact with more people and look at the world more broadly. In this process, they can expand their empathy and the breadth of their thinking, and develop the power to discover new perspectives.
Draw out possibilities through respect and dialogue
We do not hastily set limits on the student's potential or judge them rashly. We seek to continually engage in dialogue while respecting the students as individuals. One of our most important roles is to draw out and help express the untapped stories within them.
Pursue connections beyond the school to society
We continually question and answer why the destination must be reached, and what will be gained there. We do not forget that the time spent with us is a preparatory process for becoming a more shining presence in society.
Encourage people to express themselves freely and safely
We actively welcome unfamiliar ideas, new perspectives, and opinions open to discussion. We hope that this place becomes a safe space for responsible self-expression and mature acceptance of others.
